Timeshare versus co-ownership: IS IT THE SAME?

The most frequently asked question we get asked is: “Is co-ownership the same as timeshare?”

In short: no.

There are a lot of differences between timeshare and co-ownership. The main difference is
that timeshare is a right to use a property, and with Paradoor co-ownership, you become a genuine owner of your share.

Let’s break down the differences.

Timeshare is a right to use a property. When you buy a timeshare, you usually buy a week, or two weeks. Because of the structure, you get to use the holiday home for one week per year, no flexibility, and generally hard to get out of.

Co-ownership is genuine ownership. This means that when you buy a share in a holiday home, you become part of a specifically designed unit trust. You own your share of the unit trust and enjoy any capital appreciation when you sell your share.

To make it visual, we have put together the main differences between Paradoor co-ownership and timeshare below.

Our co-founder Ollie explains the difference between the two perfectly in the below video.
